IPL · MorpethPigmentation & Sun Spot Treatment in Morpeth, Northumberland

Sun damage, age spots and uneven tone lifted with IPL, supported by AlumierMD homecare and daily SPF — because pigmentation that is treated and then re-exposed simply comes back.

Where pigmentation comes from

Most of the brown patches people want rid of are sun damage: freckling across the cheeks and nose, flat age spots on the face, chest and backs of the hands, and a general unevenness of tone that makes skin look older than it is. Years of daylight in the North East is plenty to produce it.

IPL is absorbed by the melanin in those patches. They darken over a few days, lift to the surface as fine coffee-grounds specks, and flake away within one to two weeks. It is one of the more visibly rewarding treatments we offer.

Melasma is different

Melasma — symmetrical patches often linked to pregnancy, the pill or HRT — is hormonally driven and behaves very differently. Light treatment can make it worse. Where we identify melasma we treat with prescription-grade topicals and careful peels instead, and we will tell you plainly rather than sell you an IPL course that backfires.

Assessment and skin analysis

Pigmentation is the area where a proper skin analysis earns its money. Our Advanced Skin Analysis scans below the surface and shows the sun damage that has not yet surfaced, which changes both the plan and your motivation to wear SPF.

Course and expectations

A single full-face session makes a visible difference. A course of three, four weeks apart, is where the even tone comes from. Chest and hands respond well too and are often forgotten until someone points them out.

Holding the result

Daily broad-spectrum SPF, every day of the year, is the entire maintenance plan. Add a brightening AlumierMD routine and the result holds for years; skip the SPF and it returns within a season.

Your questions

Frequently asked questions

Does IPL work on melasma?

No — and it can make melasma worse. Melasma is hormonally driven and needs a different approach using prescription-grade topicals and careful peels. We assess which you have before treating.

Will the pigmentation come back?

The spots treated are cleared. New pigmentation forms with further sun exposure, so daily SPF is what keeps the result. Without it, expect it back within a year.

How many sessions will I need?

One session makes a visible difference; three, four weeks apart, is the standard course for even tone across a full face.

Can you treat hands and chest?

Yes. The chest is a listed area at £140 and hands are commonly treated — both show sun damage earlier than the face.
