Beauty by Beth
Beth runs Beauty by Beth from within Skin & Co at 16 Oldgate. She does makeup and occasion hair — often both on the same head, which is the practical reason brides book her rather than coordinating two people on the morning of a wedding.
Her portfolio lives on Instagram and is worth a look before you enquire. What you see there is what you get: soft, polished, photographed-well makeup rather than anything heavy.
Weddings
The bride package is hair and makeup together, two hours, at £100. Bridal party members can have full face makeup at £35, a hair up-do at £40, or the combined guest package at £60 — which covers bridal party and ordinary wedding guests alike.
A wedding hair up-do trial is £30 and is strongly advised for the bride. Not for the makeup artist's benefit — for yours. A trial is where you find out that the look you saved on Pinterest does not suit your face shape, with months left to change it rather than two hours.
Proms
Prom is its own set of prices and its own timing problem: half the year group wants the same two-hour window on the same evening. Full face makeup including lashes is £35, a hair up-do £35, and the combined package £60. Trials are £25 for makeup and £30 for hair.
Book prom as early as you can — ideally as soon as the date is announced. The girls who leave it until the fortnight before are the ones who end up going to whoever is free.
At the clinic or at your venue
Appointments are normally at 16 Oldgate, but Beth travels for weddings and the travel is priced by distance rather than guessed at — £10 beyond ten miles, rising to £40 beyond fifty. Early starts before 8am carry a small out-of-hours charge, which almost every wedding morning needs.

The rest of the day

Do you travel to the venue?
Yes, for weddings. Travel is charged by distance — £10 beyond ten miles, £15 beyond twenty, £25 beyond thirty, £30 beyond forty and £40 beyond fifty.
Do I need a trial?
For a bride, we would strongly advise one. A trial is where you find out whether the look actually suits you, with months left to change your mind rather than two hours. Wedding hair trials are £30, prom trials £25 to £30.
Can you start early on the morning?
Yes. Starts before 8am carry a £10 out-of-hours charge, and appointments between 8 and 9am or on a Sunday or bank holiday carry £5. Most wedding mornings need one or the other.
How far ahead should I book?
For a wedding, as soon as you have the date — summer Saturdays go a long way out. For prom, as soon as the date is announced; the last fortnight is always a scramble.
Do you do hair as well as makeup?
