Facial hair is different

It is more visible, it grows faster, and on the face it is very often hormonally driven rather than simply genetic. That changes both what to expect and how we plan the course, so the consultation asks about PCOS, thyroid function, medication and family history rather than just booking you in.

Hormonal growth and PCOS

Where growth is hormonally driven, laser works — but the hormonal signal keeps producing new hair, so the honest answer is that you will need more sessions than someone with straightforward genetic growth, and you will likely need occasional top-ups long term rather than finishing entirely. We would rather tell you that before you pay for a course than after.

The Lynton system

Lynton is British-made, medical-grade and NHS-used, with wavelengths that let us treat the full range of skin tones safely. A patch test is mandatory at least twenty-four hours before the first session — on the face in particular, we set conservative parameters and step up.

Course and timing

  • Six to eight sessions for genetic growth; often more where hormones are involved
  • Four weeks apart on the face — facial hair cycles faster than the body
  • No plucking, waxing or threading during the course; shaving is fine
  • SPF daily on treated areas, and no sunbeds at all

Comfort and aftercare

Cooling is built into the handpiece; most describe a hot elastic band flick. Redness and slight swelling around the follicles for a few hours is normal and is a sign it has worked. No makeup for twenty-four hours over treated skin.

Why an aesthetics nurse

Rebecca is an aesthetics nurse and runs all laser at Skin & Co. On the face, where the margin between effective and excessive is narrower than anywhere else, that matters.

Your questions

Frequently asked questions

Will laser work if I have PCOS?

Yes, but expect more sessions and ongoing maintenance. The hormonal signal continues producing new hair, so the aim is substantial reduction with occasional top-ups rather than permanent completion.

How many sessions on the face?

Six to eight for genetic growth, four weeks apart. Hormonally driven facial hair frequently needs ten or more.

Can I wax between sessions?

No. Waxing, threading and plucking remove the follicle the laser needs to target. Shaving is fine and is what we ask you to do.

Is it safe on darker skin?

Yes. The Lynton system covers the full range of skin tones, and a patch test establishes safe parameters before the first full session.
