Treatment room at Skin & Co Morpeth

What the appointment involves

The mole or lesion you are concerned about is examined and imaged, and the images are reviewed by a dermatologist who issues a written report. You are told clearly what it is, whether it needs anything doing, and whether it should be seen by a doctor.

It is a short appointment and it exists for one reason: so that people who have been putting off asking about a mole for two years stop putting it off.

What we do not do

We do not remove moles. Not cosmetically, not for any reason. Moles should only ever be removed by a doctor who can send the tissue for histology, and anyone offering to freeze or shave one off in a beauty setting is doing something that ranges from useless to dangerous.

CryoPen treatment at Skin & Co is for skin tags, milia, cherry angiomas, age spots, warts and verrucas — benign lesions that have been assessed. If a mole is the issue, the mole check is the appointment.

When to get something looked at

  • A mole that has changed shape, size or colour
  • Irregular or blurred edges
  • More than one colour within the same mole
  • Anything larger than about 6mm that is new
  • Itching, bleeding or crusting
  • A new mole appearing after the age of about 30

If something needs referral

If the dermatologist flags anything of concern you will be told directly and advised to see your GP, who can refer you on the urgent skin cancer pathway. We will not sit on it, soften it, or offer to treat it ourselves.

Your questions

Frequently asked questions

Do you remove moles?

No. Moles should only be removed by a doctor who can send the tissue for histology. We check and report on them, and refer you on if anything needs it.

How quickly do I get the report?

The images are reviewed by a dermatologist and a written report follows the appointment. If anything urgent is spotted you will be told without waiting for paperwork.

Should I see my GP instead?

If a mole is changing, bleeding or itching, see your GP as well — the NHS urgent skin pathway is free and fast. A private check is for peace of mind and for getting a clear written answer quickly.
