Smooth finish · MorpethDermaplaning in Morpeth, Northumberland

A sterile blade used to lift away vellus hair and dead surface cells — makeup sits flat, products absorb properly, and the skin catches the light.

Treatment room at Skin & Co Morpeth

What it is

A single-use surgical blade held at an angle and drawn across taut skin, removing the layer of dead cells on the surface along with the fine vellus hair that traps them. It takes about thirty minutes, it is painless, and the difference is immediate — the skin feels genuinely smooth and reflects light rather than scattering it.

Why people book it before an event

Foundation stops clinging to fine hair and sits properly on the skin. It is the most popular pre-wedding, pre-photo and pre-party treatment we offer, and unlike most things that give that result it has no downtime whatsoever.

The exfoliation benefit

Removing the dead layer means serums and actives reach living skin instead of sitting on top of it. A peel or a facial performed straight after dermaplaning works measurably better, which is why the two are so often booked together.

The hair question

  • Vellus hair does not grow back thicker or darker — that is a myth
  • It regrows at the same texture over three to four weeks
  • Dermaplaning does not affect terminal hair growth in any way

Who it does not suit

Active inflammatory acne, open lesions, cold sores or very reactive skin. We will not dermaplane over active breakouts — dragging a blade across inflamed skin spreads bacteria and makes it worse. If that is your skin, we will treat the acne first.

Aftercare

Nothing dramatic. Skip acids and retinol for forty-eight hours, wear SPF, and expect the skin to feel smooth for about three weeks. Most clients rebook monthly.

Your questions

Frequently asked questions

Will the hair grow back thicker?

No. Vellus hair regrows at exactly the same texture and colour — the belief that it thickens comes from the blunt edge of a cut hair feeling coarser for a few days.

How often can I have it?

Every three to four weeks, which matches the skin's natural turnover cycle.

Can I have it with active acne?

No. We will not pass a blade over inflamed or pustular skin. We would treat the acne first and dermaplane once it is settled.

Is there any downtime?

None. You can wear makeup immediately and the result is visible the same day, which is why it is so popular before events.
