Why these are called advanced

The three standard areas are forgiving. These are not. Each one sits close to a muscle you very much want to leave working, and the margin between the intended result and an unwanted one is narrow — a millimetre or two, or a couple of units. They call for someone who treats them regularly, which is why they are priced and consulted separately from the standard anti-wrinkle areas.

Masseter — jaw slimming and grinding

The masseter is the chewing muscle at the angle of the jaw. In people who clench or grind, it enlarges, which squares the lower face and causes jaw ache, headaches and worn teeth. Relaxing it softens the jawline over eight to twelve weeks and, for a great many clients, ends the morning headaches. It is the one treatment on this page that people book for relief rather than appearance.

Nefertiti lift

A series of small placements along the platysma bands in the neck and under the jaw. Those bands pull downward; relaxing them lets the muscles that lift take over, which sharpens the jawline definition. It suits early laxity and will not substitute for a surgical result, which we will say plainly if that is what you are hoping for.

Brow lift

A few units placed above the tail of the brow to release the muscle pulling it down. A millimetre or two of lift opens the eye. It is subtle by nature — anyone promising a dramatic change here is overselling — and it is often the finishing touch on a standard forehead and frown treatment rather than a treatment on its own.

Lip flip and gummy smile

A lip flip relaxes the muscle ringing the mouth so the upper lip rolls slightly outward, showing more of the pink. It adds no volume and it is not a substitute for lip filler — it changes how the lip you have sits. A gummy smile treatment relaxes the muscles that lift the upper lip too far, so less gum shows when you smile broadly. Both are small doses placed precisely, and both are areas where too much is immediately obvious.

Bunny lines, chin and downturned mouth

• Bunny lines — the diagonal creases on the bridge of the nose when you scrunch
• Dimpled or orange-peel chin — relaxing the mentalis muscle smooths the surface
• Downturned mouth — releasing the muscle that pulls the corner down lifts the resting expression

Prescription and consultation

As with all anti-wrinkle treatment, the medicine is prescription-only and a face-to-face appointment with our independent prescriber is required before a first treatment. That appointment is £50. For these areas the consultation matters more than usual — Rachel will assess the muscle in movement and may recommend against an area if your anatomy does not suit it.

Results and review

Most areas settle by day fourteen and are reviewed free at two weeks. The masseter is the exception: the visible slimming takes eight to twelve weeks because the muscle has to reduce in size, though relief from clenching usually comes much sooner.
